POLICE: Man pointed gun at victim’s head during heated argument

James V. Ammons

A Rockmart man was denied bond and remains in custody after being arrested on Wednesday on multiple charges after he pulled a gun on a victim and pointed it at their head, according to Polk County Police reports.

James V. Ammons, 39, of a Rockmart address, was arrested following the domestic altercation with the victim that began as a heated argument that nearly turned tragic on Wednesday afternoon, October 23.

Per the report, Ammons was arguing with the victim who had his phone because she wanted her credit cards back and had sought them out of their vehicle.

Ammons during the argument then pulled the handgun out and pointed it at the victim’s head with the hammer cocked on the 9mm M92 Beretta. 911 was already being called and Ammons was reported to have made threats of self harm during the incident.

All of this happened in the presence of minors, the report noted.

Officers later recovered the gun, and Ammons told police he had sought to use it in self-defense since the victim had his phone and wallet.

PCPD charged Ammons with felonies for aggravated assault and terroristic threats and acts, and four misdemeanor counts of cruelty to children in the third degree.

He remains in custody as of this posting.
