POLICE: Man ran into woods after domestic altercation comes out to find officers waiting

A Chubb Town Road man was jailed and later released on misdemeanor assault charges after he was alleged to have thrown punches at a relative during a domestic incident and then ran into the woods after, according to Polk County Police reports.

PCPD arrested Erik Cruz, 30, of a Chubb Town Road address on 9 p.m. on Sunday, July 9 after he walked back out of the woods and was spotted by officers and immediately taken into custody.

Officers arrived at the address around 7:45 p.m. on Sunday when they initially got a call believing it was an overdose, but found it was a domestic incident and their suspect had fled the scene into the woods.

Police were told by those on scene that Cruz had pushed one person and then attempted to punch another, but that the second family member had dodged the punches. They also told police that Cruz was under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Cruz was also alleged to have caused a significant amount of damage inside the residence by “punching holes in the wall and destroying the place.”

The report stated that officers were set to send a K-9 officer into the woods to track Cruz and were waiting for the dog and handler’s arrival, Cruz walked out of the woods on his own. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Cruz was booked and later released on a $2,000 bond on two charges is misdemeanor simple assault.
