Police: Meth found during purse search following a traffic stop

Courtney Clifton

A woman who police watched “weave and cross the solid yellow line” several times in a traffic stop on Judkin Mill Road was jailed on drug charges on Wednesday evening, according to Polk County Police reports.

Reports stated that Courtney Clifton, 41, of 8106 Highway 101 North, Rockmart, was stopped after she crossed the yellow line several more times, and then told officers that “she didn’t realize she had failed to stay in her lane.” She also couldn’t immediately find her license, and police were suspicious of her behavior while citations were being written for the traffic stop.

Officers gave Clifton a breathalyzer test and she passed without issue.

Per reports, police then asked Clifton if they could search her vehicle and the contents within and she gave them permission. Officers found a bag of methamphetamine within Clifton’s purse, and when questioned further and denied the meth was hers, then told officers she had a pipe within her bra that had been used for smoking the drug.

Clifton was taken into custody without further incident.

She remained in the Polk County Jail on a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine, and misdemeanor charges for failure to maintain lane and possession and use of drug-related objects.

No bond had yet been set at the time of this posting. Of note, police reports provided her address at 210 S. College St., Cedartown, and the jail provided the address above.
