A Dallas woman was booked into custody late Tuesday night and remains in custody awaiting bond on felony and misdemeanor charges following a single-vehicle DUI wreck on Highway 100 at Lime Branch Road.
Reports stated that officers arrested Chelsea Mae Bruce, 30, of a Dallas address, after they were called out on Tuesday night, July 9, just before 9:15 p.m. for the wreck. The 2013 Chevrolet Impala being driven by Bruce was damaged enough it couldn’t be moved out of the roadway.
Bruce explained to officer leading up to the wreck that she had been driving down Highway 100 when the Impala suddenly left the roadway. She told police that she had a bad alignment on the vehicle and when it suddenly veered right her attempt to correct the issue after it left the roadway was unsuccessful.
She hit a guard rail before spinning out and coming to a rest in the roadway.
Police believed she might have been intoxicated and initially Bruce denied drinking anything, but then admitted to having two shots of vodka while visiting a family member.
Bruce was put through field sobriety tests and failed, and was taken into custody without further incident.
Once at the jail and while a blood draw was being taken to determine her blood alcohol level, deputies at the jail searched her belongings more thoroughly and found a metal case with a portion of a pill inside.
It was identified as buprenorphine, a drug used to help addicts with opioid addictions. Bruce was questioned about it and said a relative gave it to her, and that she forgot she had it in her purse.
She was ultimately charged with felonies for possession of a Schedule III controlled substance and crossing state/county guard lines with weapons, intoxicants, drugs without consent along with misdemeanors for DUI, failure to maintain lane and drugs not in original container.
