Terry William Arp

A man who was driving with a taillight out was pulled over on Prior Station Road on Friday night and ended up in jail on drug charges, per a report.

Terry William Arp, 58, of a Vinson Mountain Road address in Rockmart, was stopped by Polk County Police on Friday night, June 30 around 9:40 p.m. after he was spotted driving in his truck with a taillight out on Prior Station Road near New Harmony Road.

He pulled over at Cedartown Food Mart on Prior Station Road and when the officer stopped him, he first checked out his information and found he had an active warrant through Paulding County. When the officer approached the pickup, he reported that he immediately smelled marijuana coming from the truck.

Apr was asked to step out and was taken into custody. He was asked if the marijuana the officer smelled was on him or inside the vehicle. Arp claimed to not have any marijuana on him, and when searched he had nothing on his person.

The PCPD officer asked Arp’s passenger to step out and informed both that a search was going to be done of the vehicle. The passenger was asked to hand over her purse, and she did so and upon a search police found a bag of methamphetamine.

The passenger was also detained, and when both were given Miranda warnings they fessed up it was Arp’s drugs that he had placed in the purse.

Police also found the marijuana, which was inside of a sunglasses case and wrapped up behind the seats. Officers weighed out the meth and found it was 14.2 grams. Police did not include a weight in their report for the amount of marijuana found, but both were seized.

Arp was able to turn over his belongings to the passenger, who was allowed to leave with the truck. He was taken to the Polk County Jail without further incident.

Arp remained in jail as of this posting on a $5,500 bond for felony possession of methamphetamine and a misdemeanor charge for no brake lights or working turn signals.
