Police search continues for Jimmy Blackmon a week after shooting death of his wife

Jimmy Brian Blackmon, 50, of a Rice Road address in the Rockmart area, is wanted by the Polk County Police for murder.

Where is Jimmy Blackmon? That remains the question hot on everyone’s mind locally as he is still on the run from law enforcement through the weekend as the lone suspect for the murder of his wife.

A full week after the shooting death of Ginger Leanne Blackmon, police still have no new information on the suspect’s whereabouts even after a thorough search around his house late last week.

Blackmon, 50, is a 5-foot-8 white male who is 190 pounds and has brown eyes and was last seen with lighter brown hair based on a photo taken Sunday and posted on the Polk.Today Facebook page just hours before the shooting took place.

He is accused in the death of his wife last Sunday around 8:30 p.m. on October 18, and his last known location was at the intersection of Highway 101 and Pleasant Valley Road in Floyd County, where his son was said to have dropped him off after the pair ditched Blackmon’s truck in the parking lot at the East Rome Walmart.

According to police, Blackmon is known to have health conditions that would make it unlikely that he is able to move around alone in the woods.

Federal, state, and local authorities searched the area around his home where the shooting took place on Rice Road a mile up from Rockmart High School. Despite a daytime and night flight by helicopters around the area, no evidence was found to locate him after he was spotted last Thursday.

Those who have trail cams or security cameras in the area are encouraged to share any suspicious footage they might have with police as soon as possible.

Anyone who might know the whereabouts of Blackmon is encouraged to call 911 immediately, or provide information to Det. Caleb Bowman with the Polk County Police Criminal Investigation Division by calling 770-748-7331.
