Polk County Police stopped two men not long after they left the scene of an assault on Sunday afternoon left a woman with a bloody lip after she refused to give up a car titled in her name in a domestic altercation.

James Allen Vines, 27, and Michael William Vines, 66, were both booked by Polk County Police after they were stopped by officers not long after a report was taken alleging assault against them sometime after the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m.

Police reported the victim was found with a swollen gash above her lip and was tended to by medical personnel, then told officers – along with witnesses – what happened. According to the allegations made, younger and older Vines showed up at her residence trying to take possession of a vehicle titled in her name, and demanded the keys.

When the victim refused to turn it over, the altercation turned physical and Michael Vines threw a punch, then walked away. James Vines then followed up with several more punches before another witness stated they were calling police. The two took off in a Dodge Durango that was later stopped by officers and the pair were arrested.

Both men remained in custody without bond set as of this posting.

Michael Vines faces only misdemeanor charges including cruelty to children in the third degree, battery against a female who is pregnant and driving while license suspended or revoked.

James Vines was also booked on a cruelty to children charge along with a misdemeanor battery charge, but also faces felony charges for possession of heroin and crossing state/county guard lines with weapons, intoxicants, drugs without consent.

The report from Polk County Police did not immediately include any information about the drugs found on James Vines’ possession following the weekend incident.
