Police: Two stopped pulling out of Greyfield Apartments for no tag, drugs found after K-9 alert

Polk County Police stopped a car pulling out of the back of the Greyfield Apartments building in Cedartown onto Prior Street for no tag, but ended up going to jail for much more serious charges.

Officers arrested Stephanie Haywood, 39, of 250 Berry Road, Cedartown, and David Richards, 38, of 4245 Prior Station Road, Cedartown, on several charges on Wednesday, April 27 after the pair were stopped in a 2013 Ford Focus without a license plate on the back just after midnight.

Police asked about why Haywood didn’t have a plate on the vehicle, and she explained she just bought the car from her mother and provided a bill of sale. She also had no insurance as of yet.

Backup arrived at the same time on the scene with K-9 Joep, who got to sniffing around the vehicle and alerted his fellow officers to the possibility of drugs in the car. Police searched, and found a pouch under the driver’s seat that included syringes, a straw with suspected meth residue, and a glass pipe also with suspected meth residue.

Police questioned both about the drug paraphernalia in the car and both denied any of the items were theirs.

Both were then cuffed, taken to the jail for booking and the car was towed away for seizure to the PCPD impound.

Haywood was booked and charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and possession of tools for the commission of a crime. She was later released on a $6,000 bond.

Richards was charged with felony meth possession and possession of tools for the commission of a crime as well, and was released on a $9,000 bond following his booking at the jail on Wednesday as well.
