Friend arrested as well for letting driver flee from accident

Polk County Police caught up with a woman early Wednesday morning who struck a tree in the yard of an Antioch Road residence and fled from the area, and also arrested a friend who let her behind the wheel.
Krysta Lynn Guyton, 22, of a Pea Ridge Road address in the Rockmart area, and Nakita Jade Cooper, 23, of a Lee Road address in the Cedartown area were both taken into custody by Polk County Police separately early on Wednesday morning after they wrecked into a tree together in Guyton’s car very late on Tuesday night, January 17, while making a beer run to Cedartown and back.
Per the report, initially officers received a call from the homeowner where the 2015 Ford Fusion initially struck the tree and ran off. Not before the homeowner told officers she woke suddenly when she heard the first bang of the crash, then watched and got the plate number of the car when Guyton had trouble getting away and struck a power pole “multiple times” to escape the yard.
The homeowner also provided a brief description of driver and passenger.
Just over an hour later, 911 got a call to Cooper and her husband’s residence on Lee Road for “trouble with a subject.” Guyton apparently had gotten belligerent during her time with the couple, but fled the scene before officers arrived in her banged-up Ford Fusion.
Police questioned Cooper about what had happened during the wreck, and claimed the pair had went into a ditch but no one had called police to report the accident.
She was taken into custody and charged with Permitting Unlawful Operation of Vehicle by Polk County Police and taken onward to jail, where she was later released on a $990 bond.
Officers finally caught up with Guyton at Highway 278 and Prospect Road at Eastside Elementary just after 4 a.m. on Wednesday, January 18, and while being taken into custody she spat out a white pill onto the ground she claimed was her medication. She additionally had an open beer in her car.
Guyton told police she had been drinking after getting into an argument with a man “who had placed his hands on her as well as a friend,” and when requested to blow into the breathalyzer, she came back with a blood alcohol level of .214. Drunk drivers are immediately arrested at a .08. A .2 BAC is considered blackout stages of drunk, and further consumption past that point can be fatal.
Police tried to draw blood from her for evidence once she was taken to the Polk County Jail, but her level of dehydration made it impossible while she was being booked.
Guyton remained in jail as of this posting without bond set on misdemeanor charges expired registration, open container violation, DUI, reckless driving, too fast for conditions, driving with no or without lights, failure to notify owner upon striking a fixed object and failure to maintain lane.
