Polk Elections Director facing DUI and other charges following weekend arrest

Update:

Polk County Elections Director Noah Beck will be facing a DUI, traffic and drug charges after he was arrested early Saturday morning by Rome Police on Second Avenue for failure to maintain lane.

According to a Rome Police report, Beck was initially spotted by a Rome police officer on patrol making a wide turn in his Honda Accord onto First Street from Third Avenue, failing to maintain its lane and crossing the double yellow lines. The officer continued to follow Beck, and watched another wide left turn from First Street onto Second Avenue.

The officer then stopped him on Second Avenue just before the intersection with Glen Milner Boulevard sometime after 12:25 a.m. on Saturday, May 20.

During the stop, the report noted that the officer believed he smelled alcohol coming off of Beck. He was asked to step out of the car, and when asked refused all testing – including breathalyzer, blood and urine.

Police noted that Beck stated he had only one drink 20 minutes prior to being pulled over. Due to the lack of response of his eyes, the officer reported that he believed Beck was also under the influence of some kind of drug.

After he refused any kind of field sobriety or other testing, the officer reporting the incident noted that he believed Beck was unsafe to drive and took him into custody without any further incident.

Police then searched his car, and found nine Adderall pills inside of the sandwich bag stowed within the center console.

Polk County’s Elections Director was booked into the Floyd County Jail after an arrest by the Rome Police on Saturday.

Coosa Valley News on Saturday noted the arrest of Noah Andrew Beck, 24, of a Cedartown address, on several charges by the Rome Police on Second Avenue when he was stopped for failure to maintain lane.

Additional charges included driving under the influence, drugs not in original container and possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance. He was later released from the Floyd County Jail following his arrest, though a bond amount was not immediately available.

Beck was hired as the Election Director in June 2022, and has served ever since.

The Board of Elections – who determines who serves as the Elections Director – was sought for comment. Board Chair Richard Long stated they had no immediate comment since the arrest brought up a personnel issue that they are not a liberty to discuss.

Polk Today attempted to reach out to Beck this morning but so far had no response.

Additional information about the arrest wasn’t yet made available. Polk Today reached out to the Rome Police for a copy of the report but it has not been returned as of yet.
