Local teachers continue to help those in need in the community, even when they are no longer in the classroom.
The Polk Retired Educators Association makes that their mission, and this month was no different as they gathered up toiletries, cleaning supplies and craft supplies for their latest community service project.
During their latest meeting, PREA provided all these items to the Our House Domestic Violence Shelter here in Polk County, a non-profit organization that provides temporary safe harbor for victims of domestic violence and their children.
Throughout the year, PREA gets involved in a number of community service projects helping out with collecting toys at Christmas for the Christmas for Kids Program, donating to March of Dimes, collecting canned goods for a local food pantry, and awarding a $500 grant to a first-year teacher in Polk School District.
GREA (Georgia Retired Educators Association) and PREA both follow the organization’s motto of Fellowship, Service and Support in their regular projects to help out in the community.
