Contested race has at least three candidates up for the job

The Probate Court seat that came open in mid-July is now on up for voters to decide in November for the remaining two years of the term left open by the now-retired Judge Tony Brazier.

Judge Shayne Green stepped into fill the seat on the bench for the interim, but come 2023 it will be either her or two others running to become the next Probate Judge.

Green, who qualified during this three-day period, is joined by Bobby Brooks and Mike Sullivan on the ballot according to the Board of Elections this afternoon.

The Probate Judge race will be decided on November 8, and a if-necessary run-off will be held in early December should no candidate garner the majority of the votes for a clear victory this fall.

Brooks sought the seat in 2020 against Brazier.

Sullivan, a former Polk County Sheriff’s Deputy, previously ran against Johnny Moats for Sheriff in 2012.
