The Polk School District got down to business during their Tuesday night regular session, but not before taking time out to open the year by honoring the January MERIT Award winner.

The month was dedicated to honoring the Student Services category of employees in the PSD, and this time around an educator from Cedartown Middle School was honored.

Speech/Language Pathologist Taylor Harris was nominated by her colleagues for this month’s award. Superintendent Dr. Katie Thomas noted from those nominations that Harris is the type to “literally give anyone the shirt off of her back.”

“She is an incredible speech/language pathologist,” Thomas read from one note. “All of her students love her. She’s patient and caring.”

The MERIT Award is handed out during the regular sessions to employees across the district, with an employee category picked monthly to honor the many roles that are filled across the Polk School District.
