A Rockmart man remains in the Polk County Jail this morning without bond after he was found in possession of a controlled substance on a Polk School District property by officers who had a report he had been sleeping there earlier.
Polk School District Police Department officers on Monday arrested Trey Edward Caldwell, 51, of an Oak Hill Drive address in Rockmart on several charges after he was initially spotted on the property hours before and was thought to be sleeping by those who reported him to the school police officers.
Caldwell got away in the woods behind Eastside Elementary before officers arrived to investigate, but he wasn’t done hanging around the school grounds yet.
PSD PD reported that a few hours later, he was back on campus and trying to get into vehicles. This time, PSD PD were able to catch up with Caldwell and questioned him about what he was doing on campus. Polk County Police and Rockmart Police also assisted in the arrest.
“Upon further investigation, officers found that he had a bottle that contained a controlled substance in his possession,” PSD PD Chief Michael McGee said.
Caldwell was taken into custody without further incident and booked into the Polk County Jail on felony charges of possession of a Schedule III Controlled Substance, and possess/manufacture/distribute/etc. a controlled substance or marijuana within 1,000 feet of schools. He also faces misdemeanor charges of loitering or prowling and drugs not in original container.
Bond was not yet set for Caldwell as of this posting.
