PSD students selected as Governor’s Honors Program semifinalists

The Polk School District announced on Wednesday that Cedartown and Rockmart High students have been named as semifinalists for the Governor’s Honors Program, which provides youth opportunities during the summer to gain greater knowledge in a field they love.

Cedartown High’s Ayyan Paracha is seeking to get further involved in the study of science in the program, and Becca Sides is hoping to get a spot in the music/voice program.

The Governor’s Honors program takes place in the summer on college campuses and brings together groups of gifted High Schoolers to provide them a chance to take classes during the day, and socialize with peers from around the state at night. The Governor’s Honors program only accepts 1,600 juniors and seniors from around the state each year.

From the district’s Facebook post congratulating the pair: “We are proud of you and your hard work as recognized by this honor.”

If selected, they’ll take part in the program during the summer break.
