Rockmart’s race for Mayor now now a three-candidate affair, and others qualified in races in Cedartown and Aragon as well as the ballot is filling up fast for the November 2023 Municipal Election.
The Board of Elections announced their list of candidates as the office closed for business on Tuesday and included a new name in the City of Rockmart’s vote this year.
Cooley Austin joined James Payne and Mayor Sherman Ross today in the race Mayor of Rockmart on the 2023 ballot.
Along with Austin, Marty Robinson qualified to retain his seat on the council as well.
Earlier today, Acting Mayor Judd Fee was joined by Donnie Canada in qualifying for office as well. Canada is running for council, and Fee will be giving up his council seat when the time expires for the opportunity to run for Mayor of Aragon for a full term.
In the Cedartown race, Ryan Casey jumped into the City Commission race to take over the seat held currently by Andrew Carter, who will not seek re-election as his term comes to a close in December. Casey is joined on the ballot by Commissioner Dale Tuck, seeking to retain her seat for a new term in office.
Qualifying continues on Wednesday during regular business hours.
