A Rockmart man was jailed on multiple drug and other charges after police found drugs and open containers inside of his car following a traffic stop where he tried to struggle and get away from officers, according to reports.

Arnold Dwayne Bagwell, 58, of a Rockmart address, was pulled over in a 2008 Ford Mustang after making an improper right turn from Highway 113 to Highway 278 just after midnight on Tuesday morning. Per the report, police followed him after the turn and finally decided to stop him at Nathan Dean Parkway and Calloway Drive after he kept tapping the brakes.

The initial traffic stop proceeded normally, and Bagwell cooperated until the officer came back and asked him why his vehicle smelled of marijuana inside. Bagwell stated he hadn’t smoked anything, and agreed to step out of the car.

When officers asked to search him, he tried to avoid giving police a cigarette pack, and then struggled with officers when they tried to cuff him to conduct their search. The Rockmart officer got him under control when he tried to pull away when the cuffs went on his left wrist, and he was taken into custody after being pushed back against his car.

The cigarette packed turned out to have methamphetamine hidden inside in a plastic bag and a single tablet of Sildenafil (not a controlled substance.)

When the car was searched officers found a half-drunk Bud Ice, a half-drunk bottle of Jagermeister, plus a bottle which had been mixed as a Jager Bomb (half Jagermeister, half Red Bull,) plus a grinder with marijuana inside and two half-smoked joints kept inside a glass vial.

Bagwell remained in the Polk County Jail on charges of felony possession of methamphetamine, and misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana, possession and use of drug-related objects, an open container violation and improper left or right turn.
