REPORT: Atlanta woman charged with lumber theft from Rockmart supplier

Rukiya Shani Sims

An Atlanta woman remains in jail today after she was booked on Monday for a November 2023 theft of lumber from a Rockmart supplier.

Buy Low Building Supply in Rockmart filed a police report on November 24 and claimed a woman later identified as Rukiya Shani Sims, 38, of an Atlanta address, had stopped by his store to claim a $3,219.95 lumber order made by credit card earlier in the day. She came in a rented U-Haul around 4:30 p.m. and took the lumber away without any incident.

Later, store management were informed the credit card was reported stolen and the more than $3,000 worth of lumber was gone without any payment.

Police thanks to security footage got a picture of the U-Haul tag, and some further investigation yielded Sims as the lone suspect for the crime.

The Polk County Sheriffs Office booked her into custody on a pair of felony charges on Monday evening, February 19.

Bond was not yet set for Sims, who remained in custody on felony charges of theft by deception and financial transaction card fraud.
