A man who was just a passenger during a traffic stop at Marquette Road and Highway 101 by Rockmart Police on Thursday evening resulted in his arrest when he was found to have warrants against him, and an additional charge was added when he was found with drugs on his person according to Rockmart Police.
Mitchell Alan Thompson, 31, of 3390 Corinth Poseyville Road, Bremen, was taken into custody during the traffic stop after officers stopped the driver for not being able to maintain their lane on Thursday, September 23 at 7:33 p.m.
Rockmart Police reported that no issues were found with the driver and another passenger, but it was discovered when checking all of the identifications through state systems that Thompson had a warrant through Haralson County and Suwannee County, Florida for his arrest.
The Haralson County Sheriff’s Office didn’t wish to keep Thompson due to COVID-19 issues, but Suwannee County, Florida’s probation warrant did seek to ensure that he was brought to justice.
Once in custody, Thompson was asked if he had anything illegal on his person and admitted to having a bag in his pocket. Police retrieved it and found it was methamphetamine.
Thompson was taken to jail without further incident. He remained in custody on a $10,000 bond for felony charges of possession of methamphetamine and fugitive from justice.
