Report: Buchanan man tased after refusing to give up weapon to police

A Buchanan man was jailed after being tased during a Monday evening incident by Polk County Police after refusing to give up a weapon he had on his person, reports stated.

Milton Shane Bell, 41, of 112 Grogan Road, Buchanan, was taken to the Polk County Jail on felony and misdemeanor charges around 9:45 p.m. on Monday, October 4 after he was found at a local church on Drummond Road with another man on the scene.

Police briefly talked to the other gentleman – who turned out to be the victim in the incident – who told officers that Bell had a knife. When asked to turn it over several times, Bell refused and at one point began to curse at officers.

When an officer pulled his taser and asked again, Bell was reported to say “that we were not going to get the knife from him.”

The officer fired the Taser and police were able to take Bell into custody. They removed the prongs from him before EMS arrived, and he was cleared to be taken to the Polk County Jail.

The victim told police Bell had stood up and disrupted a church service, and when asked to leave had threatened the man.

Bell remained in jail charged with felonies for aggravated assault and terroristic threats and acts, and misdemeanors for two counts of obstructing law enforcement officers, disorderly conduct and preventing or disrupting lawful meetings, gatherings or processions.
