A Buchanan woman was accused by police of running a stop sign while driving in a truck pulling a trailer on Highway 278 on Saturday, but got in deeper trouble when it was found she had no right to be driving and had drugs in her truck, per Polk County Police reports.
Teresa Ann Cooper, 53, of a Buchanan address, was stopped by police on Highway 278 and Pea Ridge Road after officers watched as she blew through a red light at Prospect Road driving a Dodge Ram with a trailer on Saturday just after the beginning of the lunch hour.
Police initially asked why Cooper didn’t stop, and she blamed the fact she was driving the trailer. When further asked for her license, she produced a state ID card instead and when officers found out she was driving on a suspended license, took her into custody.
During a search of her vehicle, police found “several baggies of suspected methamphetamine” in her truck.
Cooper was booked on felony charges of sale of amphetamine, possession of methamphetamine and possession of a Schedule IV drug, and misdemeanor charges of failure to obey traffic control device and driving while license suspended or revoked.
Bond hadn’t been set as of this posting.
