Report: Cedartown-area woman admits to still smoking meth while pregnant during arrest

Lena Nicole Lay

A Cedartown-area woman told officers when they found a meth pipe in her purse that she was still smoking the drug at least once a week despite being pregnant, according to a Polk County Police report.

Lena Nicole Lay, 32, of 1568 Buchanan Highway, Cedartown, was jailed following a late-night traffic stop at Highway 27 and Judkin Mill Road when officers spotted a vehicle swerve and fail to maintain its lane.

When they pulled over, they found Lay’s mother and the suspect in the car and after asking a few questions one officer went back to their patrol vehicle to write a citation, while another asked for permission to search the vehicle.

It was granted, and when police were looking through the car they found within Lay’s purse a glass pipe suspected to contain methamphetamine. When asked about the pipe, Lay claimed that her boyfriend must have put it in there.

“I asked her when the last time she smoked methamphetamine and she said a week prior to this incident,” the report stated. “She (Lay) also told me that she is 16 weeks pregnant and that keeps her from smoking (every day.) She said that she only smokes Methamphetamine about once a week but Marijuana daily despite being 16 weeks pregnant.”

Polk County Police charged Lay with a trio of felonies for possession of methamphetamine, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, and cruelty to children in the second degree.

Lay remained booked in the Polk County Jail as of this posting with an $8,000 bond.
