A Cedartown man got into a chase with officers that ended with him running his car into a field and being taken to jail on a long list of traffic and drug charges during a late Wednesday incident, per the Cedartown Police.
Donald Ray Jacobs, 22, of 1023 Hutto Road, Cedartown, remained in custody this morning on multiple charges after he was taken into custody late Wednesday night, August 31, 2022 by Cedartown Police.
Jacobs was spotted in a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt with a tag halfway hanging off the back at 10:35 p.m., and had made a wide turn at South Main at Canal Street. The officer following thought he might be a danger to other drivers, and sought to stop him as it continued on Russell Street, and then when it failed to stop by Clyde Drive, the pursuit began.
After he turned back onto Main and slammed his brakes at the intersection with MLK Jr. Boulevard, his driver’s side tire blew out. The chase continued down MLK Jr. Boulevard, where he drove in the wrong lane several times including a near-miss head-on with a tractor trailer, continued onward to Lee’s Chapel Road and nearly rear-ended a vehicle while still fleeing from officers.
Police followed after it went through the intersection at Highway 27, and as Jacobs turned onto Wooten Road, and continued until he reached the intersection with Antioch Road. He failed to stop, and went across the roadway and into a field across the road.
Jacobs tried to flee on foot, but didn’t make it far before he was caught by officers. The passenger had tried to stick her hands out of the vehicle during the chase, per the Cedartown Police report, but was unable to get away since Jacobs didn’t stop.
She had surrendered to officers as soon as the chase ended, and refused medical treatment afterward when asked if she was injured.
Jacobs was transported to Polk Medical Center for treatment before he was booked into jail, but before he was transported he told officers he had ecstasy in his pants. Police recovered it, and when examining the evidence at the department later found 48 pills at 7 grams of weight.
Ultimately, the female didn’t face charges – at least none listed in the report. The passenger was also not listed in any jail report.
Jacobs remained in the Polk County Jail as of this posting without bond on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges including: Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance, fleeing or attempting to elude police, possession of a controlled substance within 1000 feet of schools, multiple counts of failure to maintain lane, improper passing on left, failure to obey traffic control device, failure to yield right of way while turning, unsafe vehicle or equipment, obstruction of law enforcement officers, reckless driving, reckless conduct, driving without a license, passing on shoulder of roadway, following too closely, driving on wrong side of roadway, failure to use signal, and improperly displayed tag, among others we might have missed. (The full list of charges are available on the Sept. 1, 2022 arrest report.)
Drug charges for the possession near a school were added since the chase ended within 1,000 feet of Youngs Grove Elementary School on Antioch and Wooten Roads.
