A Cedartown man who was found speeding in the area of Prospect Road and Highway 278 was ultimately tracked down in a foot pursuit and remains in jail on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, per Polk County Police reports from Monday evening.
Timberland Terrell Dennis, 23 of 808 Polk St., Cedartown, was caught by police not long after he tried to flee from a traffic stop on foot in the Towers Circle Apartment Complex.
Per police reports, Dennis was spotted on Highway 278 at Prospect Road with a broken taillight and was going 74 in a 55 mph zone around 7:45 p.m. on November 8.
Police reported that Dennis was weaving through traffic to pass other vehicles without using a signal, and when finally the officer who initially spotted him felt comfortable enough to conduct a traffic stop, Dennis sped up when he got to the Garden Inn on Piedmont Avenue.
Reports stated he jumped out of the car and took off on foot, making it as far as the apartment complex some 100+ yards away before he was finally grabbed and brought to the ground and into custody.
When read his Miranda rights and questioned by officers, Dennis told them he ran because he had a suspended license.
Police took him back to the Garden Inn and his car and there conducted a search of the car after smelling marijuana coming from inside. They found a 325 mg Oxycodone and then tracked back down where the officer saw Dennis dump a suspected bag of marijuana during the foot chase and recovered it.
A family member took his car, and they were warned based on Dennis’ previous record of selling marijuana from the car, if he is found with it again the police plan to seize it.
Dennis was taken to the Polk County Jail where he was booked on a felony charge of possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance, and multiple misdemeanor charges including tag lights required, driving while license suspended or revoked, possession of marijuana, obstruction of law enforcement officers, tampering with evidence, reckless driving, improper lane change/usage and speeding in excess of maximum limits.
No bond had yet been set for Dennis as of this posting.
