
A man who was ultimately caught in Alabama after taking Polk County Police and Cherokee County Sheriffs deputies on a chase that began on Prior Station Road in early morning hours on Monday, January 23, according to reports.
Nathaniel Allen Clackum, 31, of an Akes Station Road address in the Cedartown area, was taken into custody across the state line and ultimately transported back to the Polk County Jail after Clackum failed to use his turn signal on a motorcycle while turning left onto Reynolds Road.
Clackum was also traveling in the wrong lane on Reynolds Road, and police attempted to stop him. Instead, he kept going, make a large circle in a yard at the dead end of Reynolds Road, and took off.
He made it just over a mile and a half into Cherokee County, Alabama before he tried to flee the pursuit on the motorcycle by going through a ditch. Clackum chose the wrong spot and the bike got waterlogged and stuck in briars.
Clackum went onto his belly after, and refused when police ordered him multiple times to put his hand behind his back. Ultimately police were able to get to him, pull him out of the briar patch, and took him into custody without further incident.
Police noted the chase that lasted 10 minutes went nine miles in total. Clackum was checked out by EMS personnel where police finally caught up to him and he was cleared to be taken to the Sheriff’s Office in Cherokee County while Polk County Police awaited arrest warrants.
Those warrants came through on Tuesday and he was transported back to Polk County to face a number of charges.
Clackum was charged with felonies for theft by taking and fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, and misdemeanors for driving while license suspended or revoked, reckless driving, improper left or right turn, failure to maintain lane, and obstructing law enforcement officers.
Bond had not yet been set as of this posting.
