A Covington man was charged with his colorful language after he gave 911 an earful over a problem they couldn’t solve here in Polk County, according to Cedartown Police reports.
Over the weekend, Billy Joe McCorkle, 45, of a Covington address, made a call to 911 operators upset that a juvenile he had custody over was in Department of Family and Children Services custody after running away, and he wanted answers.
During the call, the operator reported to police that McCorkle was irate and cussing during the conversation, to the point where it was abusive to the 911 operator. They called the Cedartown Police to make a report, and when the officer called back to hear his side (on a 911 recorded line and body camera,) McCorkle’s tirade continued and he began to cuss out the officer as well.
Based on his behavior during both recorded calls, a warrant was taken out Saturday for his arrest and forwarded onward for Newton County for McCorkle to be picked up and placed in custody so Polk County officials could come get him.
The Newton County Sheriffs Office contacted Cedartown Police on Sunday, well aware of McCorkle and would prepare to pick him up shortly. During this time, McCorkle called Atrium Health Floyd Polk Medical Center for information about the juvenile, and cussed them out as well.
The report stated that hours later on Sunday evening, McCorkle was taken into custody by the Newton County Sheriffs Office. They reported to Cedartown Police that he had fought with deputies after he was taken into custody, but faced no charges based on his conduct in Newtown County custody.
A Polk County Sheriffs Deputy on Monday brought McCorkle back over to Cedartown where he was booked into the Polk County Jail on a misdemeanor charge of unlawful conduct on a 911 call.
He remained in custody on a $1,000 bond as of this posting.
