REPORT: Excessive speeder stopped, jailed on DUI charge

Isaac Jasso

A Cartersville man who was going nearly 20 over on Highway 113 heading toward Rockmart was stopped, and found to be driving under the influence of drugs during a traffic stop on Monday, per Polk County Police reports.

Officers arrested Isaac Jasso, 30, of a Cartersville address, on Monday, April 29, following a traffic stop just before 8:30 p.m.

Per the report, the officer who stopped Jasso was patrolling on Highway 113 in the area of Cantrell Road when he spotted Jasso going 74 mph in a 55 mph zone heading south. He got behind him and stopped him just south of Cantrell Road.

Jasso first told officers that he didn’t have his license, but did have an identification card and when he reached in for his wallet, police got a strong whiff of the odor of marijuana coming from inside the car.

After he turned over his ID card, the officer who stopped him called for backup and ran his information through the state database, which showed him as a habitual violator per the report.

Jasso was put through field sobriety tests due to the alleged smell of marijuana coming from the car. The report indicated he did not pass these tests, and was taken into custody without incident.

Police allowed Jasso to make arrangements for his vehicle and he was taken onward to the Polk County Jail where he was booked on misdemeanors for speeding in excess of maximum limits and DUI – less safe -drugs. He was also charged with a felony for being a habitual violator.

The officers during a search of the vehicle did not find any drugs in the car, or anything of “evidentiary value.”

Jasso remained in the Polk County Jail without bond set as of this posting.
