Report: False calls to 911 gets Rockmart man charged

John Robert Harrington

A Rockmart man was taken to the Polk County Jail and processed but later released after he had called in a third emergency that didn’t exist to 911, according to Polk County Police reports.

John Robert Harrington, 47, of 46 Peachtree Road, Rockmart, had been warned twice before by officers not to call and make false reports to operators at 911, but did so a third time and police went out to his residence again and found nothing wrong.

In previous incidents, Harrington had called 911 about a fight happening on July 27, and then a second time on August 6 when he reported that a woman had been shot at his residence.

Police warned him both times about reporting false incidents and calling 911 without a real emergency, and when he did so again on Tuesday morning officers determined to charge him with all three incidents.

Harrington had this time called in a home invasion to officers, and when they arrived and found nothing wrong asked for Harrington’s whereabouts.

He came walking up to the scene while officers were still there, and they questioned him about his previous warnings for making false reports to 911.

Polk County Police booked Harrington on three counts of misuse of 911, and three counts of making false reports of crimes. His bond was set at $3,000, but because of COVID-19 restrictions at the Polk County Jail, he was released after being processed.
