REPORT: Gadsden teen had firearms, marijuana during DUI traffic stop

Lamycal Decree Mitchell

A Gadsden, Alabama teen was booked on Sunday evening into custody after a DUI traffic stop yielded firearms and marijuana in his possession, according to Polk County Police reports.

Officers arrested Lamycal Decree Mitchell, 17, of a Gadsden, Alabama address (the PCSO listed his address in Jacksonville, Alabama) on Sunday evening around 8:30 p.m.

Mitchell was driving a gray Honda Civic on Piedmont Highway when he went past officers who were already on a different traffic stop and watched as it nearly struck another vehicle that had the right of way.

Police caught up with Mitchell at M.C. Beck Road, and Mitchell opened his door and the officer noted the “odor of marijuana was observed coming from the vehicle.”

Mitchell admitted to officers he had smoked marijuana around two hours before in the vehicle and he and passengers should have nothing on them.

Despite this promise, officers found marijuana in the car between the passenger seat and door after a search, along with an AK-47 and a Glock 19 between the seat and center console.

Mitchell was then given a field sobriety test, and based on how he performed officers took him into custody for driving under the influence.

Police did not report what happened to the other passengers in the incident.

Mitchell was taken to the Polk County Jail where he remained as of this posting on a single charge of DUI – Less Safe – Drugs, a misdemeanor charge. No others were listed as of this posting.
