REPORT: Man alleged to hold woman in truck against her will found with drugs

William Wayne Welchel

A Cedartown man was jailed early Tuesday and remained in custody after he was accused of holding a person against their will in a truck, and was found during his arrest and booking at jail with drugs on his person, per Cedartown Police reports.

William Wayne Welchel, 35, of a Cedartown-area address, was taken into custody by Cedartown Police after a victim told officers they were held against their will in a truck on South Fourth Street after officers arrived around 1 a.m. to investigate a 911 call for a domestic incident.

Per the report, the victim was initially bleeding from the mouth and was “upset and confused.” Later police noted that the blood they spotted when they arrived on scene was gone, and now the victim no longer wanted any medical treatment.

They told officers they were being held against their will by Welchel in the truck, and then they fled to another house across the street from where officers found the victim. Welchel was found by a second officer who noted that when he was searched, a bag of methamphetamine was found on Welchel.

Once at the jail, deputies found marijuana and clonazepam on Welchel, which added more charges to the list.

He remained in custody as of this posting without bond set on felony charges of possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, false imprisonment and crossing state/county guard lines with weapons, intoxicants, drugs without consent. He also faces a misdemeanor charge for marijuana possession of less than an ounce.
