Polk County Police arrested a Cedartown man on early Friday morning during a traffic stop where police found methamphetamine amid a search with a K-9 officer, per reports filed over the weekend.
David Joseph Richards, 38, of 4224 Prior Station Road, Cedartown, was booked into the Polk County Jail on Friday, July 15, 2022 at XXX a.m. on multiple charges after a traffic stop at the intersection of Girard Avenue and Sixth Street.
The PCPD reported that Richards was spotted driving over the center line twice before he was stopped, and officers found two passengers inside the cab with him, and two more inside his truck bed.
Police asked for identification, but he was unable to provide it since he left it at home. A backup officer with K-9 Joep arrived, sniffed around the truck, and the dog found the scent of some kind of illegal narcotics inside the cab.
The report stated that officers armed with probable cause took up the search, ultimately locating a black case that contained syringes and a “baggie containing a felony amount of Methamphetamine” per the report.

“While en route to the jail, Mr. Richards stated that e wanted his black case back,” the report noted.
“I advised Mr. Richards it was being placed into evidence,” was the reply officers stated in the report.
Richards was taken to the jail and booked on felony charges of possession of methamphetamine, and possession of tools for commission of a crime along with misdemeanor charges of failure to maintain lane and no license on person.
As of this posting, Richards remained in custody on a $10,000 bond.
