A short late Wednesday night foot chase with a man who officers attempted to stop after they were walking down Highway 27 against traffic ended with drug charges for the suspect, according to Polk County Police reports.
Officers arrested Charles Richard Dean, 49, of a Cedartown-area address on Wednesday night, June 26, after police tried to stop him on his walk down Highway 27 near Knight Road just after 10 p.m.
When the reporting officer got out of his patrol vehicle, Dean took off on foot. He didn’t get far, and the officer caught up with Dean quickly and took him into custody.
Dean claimed “he did not know” why he ran from officers, but the question was answered by evidence found along the path of the foot pursuit. Dean did tell police there was a bag of marijuana next to where he was caught, and officers found it along with another bag containing suspected methamphetamine 20 feet away.
He was taken onward to the Polk County Jail without incident on felony charges of tampering with evidence and possession of methamphetamine, along with a misdemeanor charge of obstruction of law enforcement officers .
Dean remained in the Polk County Jail without bond set as of this posting.
