Polk County Police finally caught up with a man who wrecked his car during a chase with police earlier this month, and he told officers he doesn’t remember much from the night in question according to reports.
Officers arrested Jeremy Michael Timms, 39, of a Cedartown address on Wednesday after complaints of shots being fired at a Whitaker Road address in the early morning hours. When police arrived, Timms was attempting to hide in a back bedroom but officers saw him through the windows and were able to get inside and take him into custody on multiple warrants.
Police sought Timms for arrest after an April 13 incident with Polk County Police where he took officers on a short chase and ultimately crashed an older model Ford Explorer after he drove onto the Silver Comet Trail in an attempt to avoid officers.
That crash at Kimoto Tech saw Timms flee on foot and get away from officers and a K-9 officer tracking attempt.
A passenger in the vehicle at the time of the chase remained behind and was ultimately taken into custody during the April 13 incident for previous warrants for his arrest. Timothy Crawford, 54, of a Cedartown address, remains in custody on a felony probation violation warrant.
Police were attempting to stop Timms after he left the Bee Rite at the corner of Prior Station Road and Adamson Road without headlights on at all, and then tried to get away from officers.
After Timms was arrested in the early morning hours on Wednesday, police read him Miranda rights and questioned him about the chase. He told officers he didn’t remember much from that night, noting that he was sorry for the trouble he caused. When asked why he ran from a no headlights traffic stop, he said he couldn’t remember. He did remember winning $1,600 on the “Ding Dong” machines at Bee Rite before he left the gas station.
The last thing Timms told police he remembered from the night was waking up while running from police on foot well away from the wreck at Kimoto Tech on Canal Street.
Timms remained in custody and was charged with felonies for a failure to appear warrant and for fleeing or attempting to elude police. He was also booked on misdemeanor charges of headlight requirements, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, improper passing on left, reckless driving, failure to yield after stopping at stop sign and obstructing law enforcement officers.
Bond was not yet set for the charges he currently faces.
