REPORT: Man charged with domestic violence warrants following Sunday incident

Jamie Nathaniel Smith

A Rockmart man refused to cooperate with officers was left to be found another day, and that day was Tuesday for warrants following an alleged domestic altercation that happened on Sunday, according to Polk County Police reports.

Polk County Sheriff’s deputies caught up with Jamie Nathaniel Smith, 38, of a Rockmart address after he refused to open the door for police when they attempted to talk to him on Sunday about the accusations.

Warrants were later taken out for his arrest after he was accused of domestic violence, and then when the victim attempted to report it dropped her phone in water so she couldn’t call 911. Smith is also accused of forcing the victim to stay inside the house by using deadbolts that required a key and hiding that key somewhere the victim couldn’t locate.

Police learned about this when they were flagged down during another incident by the victim in a car after they were finally able to flee the situation.

Polk County Police sought to talk to Smith about it, but he became uncooperative and slammed and locked the door on officers when they spoke to him in his home.

Officers later took out warrants for battery, false imprisonment, obstructing law enforcement officers and obstructing or hindering persons making an emergency telephone call.

Smith remained in the Polk County Jail on felony and misdemeanor charges as of this posting. His bond was set at $9,000.
