REPORT: Man crashed motorcycle after chase with police

A Rockmart-area man was booked on Tuesday after he crashed his motorcycle in a chase with Polk County Police on Cobb Mountain Road late in the afternoon, according to reports.

Police arrested Richard Ellis Arnold, 53, of a Rockmart-area address on Tuesday after 4 p.m. when he was spotted near the intersection of Cobb Mountain and Lee Road by an officer going 90 mph on his blue Suzuki GSX-S1000 after he ran a stop sign.

The officer got behind him, clocked him going 100 mph, and called in for backup.

Arnold at one point did look back, but refused to stop. He eventually wrecked his motorcycle around 3/10th of a mile near the intersection with Cobb Mountain Road off the side of the road.

He wasn’t injured, but was checked out by EMS.

Arnold was taken into custody without further incident. Upon a search of his belongings, police found a loaded Smith and Wesson handgun and a open bottle of alcohol.

Per the report, “Arnold did state that he knew what he was doing “was wrong and really didn`t know why that he ran from the police”.”

Arnold was being held without bond set as of this posting on a felony charge of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer for a felony offense, along with misdemenors for failure to yield after stopping at a stop sign, failure to maintain lane, reckless driving, vehicle passing in opposite direction, too fast for conditions and an open container violation.
