Report: Man jailed after calling in serious crimes that never happened

Zachary Gregg Dabbs

A Rockmart man got a full response from local emergency personnel when he told a 911 operator that a woman at his residence was seriously injured, but it all turned out to be nothing and now he’s in jail facing a misdemeanor charge for making the call in the first place.

Zachary Gregg Dabbs, 48, of 64 Williamson Street, Rockmart, was taken into custody on Saturday afternoon, July 30, 2022 and charged with a misdemeanor false report of a crime charge when he called 911 and got a full response from emergency personnel.

Per a Rockmart Police report, Dabbs claimed he had a woman who was shot, beaten and had been raped at his home around 2:30 p.m.

“This report made to 911 by the offender prompted an emergency response from multiple agencies including Rockmart Police, Rockmart (Fire and) Rescue, Redmond EMS, Polk County Police and (the) Polk County Sheriff’s Office,” the reporting officer noted in the arrest record for Dabbs on Saturday. “Upon arrival, it was discovered that the offender was alone at his residence with the exception of his father.”

Police then realized the whole incident had been a “made up report from his imagination” and that Dabbs tried to explain it saying he was “tricked.”

The report stated that police played back the 911 call, and Dabbs could be clearly heard reporting there was a woman in his home who had been shot and was a victim of many crimes.

“The offender also told 911 that his bedroom was “bloody.” A sweep of the residence showed that also to be false,” the report added.

Dabbs was taken into custody and remained in jail on the single misdemeanor charge on a $2,500 bond as of this posting.
