REPORT: Man jailed for assaulting victim with handgun

A man was booked on aggravated assault and other charges earlier in the week after he struck a victim with a handgun, according to Polk County Police reports.

PCPD reported that David Jason Crocker, 65, of a Cedartown address, was charged after he was accused of the assault on the woman on just after midnight on Sunday, May 19.

Police and EMS were called out to a Johnson Lake Road address where they found the victim with a wound to their head. They were able to explain that after Crocker got drunk, he tried to leave and when told he couldn’t go due to his state, he got angry and took the victim’s phone to prevent them from calling 911.

After the victim tried to go to bed, Crocker came into the bedroom with a firearm and “struck her several times in the head” before threatening the victim’s life, the report alleged.

Crocker was reported to have fled the scene, and was later caught running a red light by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office in Alabama, where the report stated he might have been involved in a wreck and was found with a Taurus G2 9mm.

He was ultimately booked into the Polk County Jail on Tuesday, May 21, on felony aggravated assault, terroristic threats and acts, possession of a firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, probation violation, and a misdemeanor charge of battery under the family violence act.

Crocker was denied bond and remains in jail.
