REPORT: Man jailed for battery after he barricades himself following assault

Joshua Dennis Norton

Polk County Police and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office worked together to take a man into custody

Officers arrested Joshua Dennis Norton, 40, of a Cedartown-area address, after he was accused of assaulting a woman during an incident at a Wimberly Hill Road address on Monday evening, October 28. PCPD were dispatched by 911 after calls were made about the assault, witnessed by two other individuals.

When police arrived alongside Sheriff’s deputies, they found Norton barricaded on the property in a dwelling. Officers got Norton out of his attempted hiding spot after prying the door open with a crowbar and a PCSO deputy took him into custody without incident.

Per the report, witnesses told police after they had Norton in custody further details about what happened. Norton had become angered and was making threats to kill others at the residence, and when a dog came up to him he was reported to have struck it in the face.

The victim tried to get the dog out of the way, but was thrown to the ground after Norton was alleged to have grabbed the victim by the hair. A second witness to the events verified what happened as well.

He was checked out by personnel from AdventHealth Redmond EMS after complaints for low blood sugar and to be sure he had no injuries. While being checked out, Norton later told officers he hadn’t meant to do anything to the victim.

PCPD took Norton onward to the Polk County Jail and booked him on misdemeanor charges of simple assault and simple battery under the Family Violence Act.

He remained in custody as of this posting on a $2,000 bond.
