A Cedartown man was taken into custody on Tuesday morning and faces multiple charges related to sex crimes involving a minor.

The Cedartown Police did not wish to release too many details about the arrest of Rene Cornejo, 46, of a Cedartown address, due to the nature of the charges but did provide some explanation for his arrest.

On July 23 shortly after midnight, the Cedartown Police responded to a domestic disturbance at Cornejo’s residence involving a family member. During that incident, a minor told officers that Cornejo had been sexually abusing them.

Cedartown Police Chief Jamie Newsome reported that an investigation ensued, and additional evidence came to light that backed up the minor’s allegations.

Warrants were taken out by Cedartown Police officers in recent days for Cornejo’s arrest, and he was jailed Tuesday morning at 9:52 a.m. on felony charges for two counts of child molestation, two counts of rape, two counts of incest and two counts of sexual battery against child under 16.

He was being held without bond set as of this posting.
