
A man struck a victim and then took off before police could arrive was later picked up on warrants taken out by the Polk County Police, according to a report filed over the weekend.
An arrest was made for Richard Wayne Heffner, 32, listed of a Buchanan address, was jailed on Tuesday on charges of felony battery and misdemeanor cruelty to children in the third degree.
Per the report, Heffner was involved in a domestic incident when he was alleged to have struck the victim following an argument, in front of a juvenile who stood in the doorway to watch.
The victim told police that Heffner immediately called someone to come pick him up, and fled before police could arrive to intervene, and was last seen walking away with a bag full of his belongings.
Police advised the victim to get a protection order from Magistrate Court to prevent Heffner from returning.
Warrants were taken out for Heffner’s arrest following the Sunday, June 30 incident.
Heffner was picked up Tuesday by PCPD and taken to the Polk County Jail, where he remained on a $2,000 bond as of this posting.
