REPORT: Man left car on Cobb Mountain Road, later found and charged with aggravated stalking

Johnny Daren Vinson

A man who left his car at the entrance of a Wildlife Management Area on Cobb Mountain Road was later tracked down and jailed on aggravated stalking charges, according to a Polk County Police report.

Johnny Daren Vinson, 64, of a Cedartown-area address, was located on Wednesday at a trailer on Johnson Lake Road after police got a tip from the stalking victim where he might be located.

Initially they sought out Vinson because he left his vehicle in front of the DNR gate on Cobb Mountain Road, and found that police had contacted Vinson the previous night but were now unable to locate him to move it out of the way.

A search of the woods was undertaken, but they were unable to find Vinson and then one officer remembered a previous call involving their suspect and made their way to the stalking victim’s residence.

Police reported the victim had a temporary protection order (TPO) against Vinson, and he had made contact by text in violation of that order back in September on two separate dates.

Ultimately Vinson was found and was taken into custody on charges of aggravated stalking. He faces two counts – one for each text sent.

He was also charged with criminal trespass on public hunting and fishing areas, a misdemeanor.

Bond hadn’t been set for Vinson’s charges as of this posting, and he remained in the Polk County Jail.

This was his third arrest just this year.

Vinson was booked into custody by Polk County Police in late April for a domestic assault. During that incident, the victim told officers they believed he might be suffering from mental health issues.

He was charged in May when he was found by officers just before 3 a.m. at an Old Cedartown Road property and began yelling out for a loved one during the early morning incident. PCPD reported at the time that Vinson tried to explain he was there to see his wife and tried to prove he was sent a text message, but none was found in his phone by officers on scene.
