REPORT: Man makes false 911 report of ‘hostage situation’ on Sunday

Justin Tyler Vaughn

A man was booked into custody early Monday morning after he made a fake report to 911 on Sunday night, according to Polk County Police reports.

Justin Tyler Vaughn, 32, of a Cedartown address, was booked into jail on Monday morning, September 11, on a single misdemeanor charge for “unlawful conduct during 911 call by using obscene/vulgar/profane language to intimiate/harass 911” (we think that means intimidate -KtE) when he called in to report a “hostage situation” involving a woman he claimed was being held because her Facebook status had gone offline.

Per the report, when officers arrived at the woman’s residence to see if anything was wrong, they found that no hostages were being held and the woman annoyed that Vaughn had called 911.

She told police that she had been “continually harassed” by Vaughn and told them where to find him.

Police were able to track the 911 call back to his residence and phone, but when they attempted to find him he had already left and also reported that he didn’t want to make unfounded welfare checks because he was scared of being charged for Misuse of 911.

He additionally claimed that “he had messages” that had subsequently been “unsent” from the woman claiming abuse.

Throughout the phone conversation police had with Vaughn, he continually claimed he was trying to avoid being arrested for falsely reporting a crime.

Warrants were sought for his arrest when he refused to turn himself over to police. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office booked him into custody on Monday morning without any incident reported.

Vaughn remains in jail on the misdemeanor charge without bond set.
