A man was caught with drugs in plain view on his motel room bed when officers came to take him into custody on arrest warrants during a midnight stop to a Rockmart-area motel, per Polk County Police reports.

Jonathan Nicholas Reed, 38, of 82 Oak St., Aragon, was taken into custody in the Polk Motel around midnight on Wednesday, April 27 when police knocked on his door to see if they could cuff him, he answered the door and was immediately taken into custody until 911 verified the warrant.

That’s when the report stated that officers noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the room, and after Reed gave his consent to search, he also asked for a pair of shoes. Police spotted a bag of suspected marijuana and suspected methamphetamine on the bed in plain view, and it was taken by officers for evidence.

Police did provide Reed with a pair of shoes before carrying him off to the Polk County Jail, where he was booked on the warrant along with charges for possession of marijuana and possession of methamphetamine. The warrant served against him was for probation violation, an additional felony.

Reed remained in jail on an $8,500 bond as of this posting.
