REPORT: Man threatens family, officers with shears taken to jail after being tased

John Wesley Fain

An incident on Mother’s Day sent a man first to the hospital and later to jail after he was tased when he threatened family members and police officers with medical shears he refused to give up, according to reports.

Police took a while to decide what steps to take with John Wesley Fain, 40, of an Cedartown-area address on Sunday, May 12, since he had medical issues and remained on a couch inside of a residence after he threatened family members and later law enforcement with a pair of medical shears he was attempting to use as a weapon.

Since officers couldn’t get Fain to give up the shears peacefully, they were forced to use a taser to get him to go into custody. Police were told by relatives on scene that he had been agitated for the past two days, but had only become aggressive that day.

They also reported he had begun to throw items and threatening others without any clear reason why he was upset.

Officers got him out of the residence in a wheelchair and he was transported to Atrium Health Floyd Polk Medical Center to be checked out before being cleared to go onward to the Polk County Jail.

Fain remained in custody on felony charges with five counts of obstructing law enforcement officers, eight counts of terroristic threats and acts, and a misdemeanor charge of simple assault under the family violence act.

He remained in custody as of this posting without bond set.
