REPORT: Man threw mom’s ashes during domestic altercation facing multiple charges

Gregory Scott Elliott

A local man remains in custody after he assaulted a relative and then threw his mother’s ashes around the same relative’s living room, according to a Polk County Police report.

Gregory Scott Elliott, 47, of an Aragon address (or Dalton, depending on the agency – KtE) was jailed on the night of Friday, July 7, after officers arrived to find him being held down by a woman after a domestic altercation at a Cedartown address.

He was immediately taken into custody after being let up and found to be intoxicated.

Per the report, the full story came out thanks to one of the children present. Elliott is alleged to have assaulted a family member as they sat on the couch by first choking them, then using the living room table to hit the victim in the head.

Additionally, Elliott then took out his mother’s ashes from a box and opened her sealed cremated remains and threw “ashes across the living room area and onto both male parties.”

Elliott had just gotten out of jail and came to visit the minor who told police what happened, per another witness who saw the altercation happen.

He remained in the Polk County Jail with an $11,000 bond set on felony charges of dead body abuse, aggravated assault and cruelty to children in the second degree – causing excessive physical pain or mental pain, and a misdemeanor charge for criminal trespass.
