
A man spotted walking down the wrong side of John Hand Road by officers in the early morning hours on Tuesday was accused of trying to dump drugs before being encountered by officers, according to Polk County Police reports.
Jonathan Deric Couzzort, 45, of a Cedartown address, was found by Polk County Police on July 4 just after 2:30 a.m. walking down the wrong side of John Hand Road near Blanche Road.
Per the report, police stopped to talk to Couzzort, and watched while he was alleged to have thrown an item to the ground behind him while police approached. Police took him immediately into custody.
A second officer on scene found the baggie on the ground that Couzzort was alleged to have thrown down and reported it as suspected methamphetamine.
Couzzort identified himself to police. He was further searched and then taken onward to the Polk County Jail.
He remained in custody on felony charges of tampering with evidence and possession of methamphetamine, and misdemeanor pedestrian must walk on sidewalk/shoulder. His bond was set at $8,500.
