A traffic stop yielded drugs and two arrests for the Polk County Police on Sunday evening, even though one of the suspects claimed the bag of methamphetamine found in her purse was “ice cream salt” she had used the night before to make the frozen dessert with her children.
Police arrested William David Denton Whatley, 37, of 410 Marshall St., Cedartown and Crystal Leigh Bollen, 36, of 323 4th St., Cedartown, on multiple charges including drug possession after they were stopped at the intersection of Antioch Road at Johnson Circle on Sunday at 9:02 p.m. after methamphetamine and marijuana were found during a search of the vehicle conducted by police and sniffed out with the help of a K-9 officer.
The reporting officer stated on Sunday night that he had watched a trio pull away in a 2004 Nissan Frontier after sitting at a gas pump at the Grands service station for 15 minutes and decided to follow them, and when the vehicle turned onto Cason – which becomes Antioch – he pulled the truck over for a busted taillight.
Reports stated that one passenger was immediately recognized, and the other two in the truck handed over their information. The officer who pulled the truck over stated that he smelled marijuana in the truck and ordered all three out, and called for help.
By this point, it was also found that Bollen had a warrant for her arrest for a failure to appear charge in Chattooga County. Then the K-9 officer arrived, sniffed around the truck and then alerted to possible drugs in the car in the front passenger seat area.
Instead, police found a “large bag of methamphetamine” inside of a backpack and a glass pipe owned and claimed by Whatley on the scene, and another bag of meth inside of Bollen’s purse.
Whatley told officers he uses the meth when driving back and forth for his job in Savannah.
Bollen told police the bag found in her purse wasn’t meth at all, but instead claimed it was “ice cream salt.” Field tests of the drugs inside the bag proved otherwise, per the officer’s incident report filed overnight.
Officers ultimately also found a small amount of marijuana inside the truck.
The third passenger was let go without further incident, police took the truck back to the PCPD to seize it, and Whatley and Bollen were carried off to the Polk County Jail, where they remained as of this posting with bond set.
Bollen was charged with felonies for possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and manufacture, deliver, distribute, administer, sell, possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance, and a bond drop. Her bond was set at $30,000 as of this posting.
