A Cedartown man who fled from police and ended up back home on Saturday on a motorcycle remains in jail with no bond yet set on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after officers caught up to him.
Bobby Lee Malone, 38, of 762 Berry Road, was spotted by Polk County Police riding a 2011 Kawasaki EX250 down Johnson Lake Road at a high rate of speed near Old Esom Hill Loop, and officers pulled out to try and make a traffic stop.
Instead, the driver later identified as Malone, sped up and turned onto Georgia Avenue, and then led police on a chase that saw officers following the motorcycle down Fairview Avenue, Ellawood Avenue, and back onto Johnson Lake Road where speeds at one point hit 102 mph. He finally turned onto Berry Road and ended up not far from his home, where police gave chase on foot in a resident’s yard and ultimately took Malone into custody at gunpoint.
Malone claimed to police that “he was on a bicycle” according to the report when he was taken into custody, and was found with $2,500 in cash on his person.
Police towed the motorcycle to PCPD headquarters as part of an ongoing theft investigation, and Malone was taken to jail without further incident.
While on the scene, police learned the motorcycle had no valid insurance, hadn’t been registered and that the seller had sent him money back on the purchase.
He was charged with felonies for fleeing or attempting to elude police, obstruction of law enforcement officers, and theft by conversion. Malone also faces misdemeanor charges of no insurance on the motorcycle, reckless driving, and improper registration of a vehicle.
Check back later this afternoon for more on the investigation into the motorcycle theft.
