A chase with Georgia State Patrol and local police that began in Hiram ended in Cedartown on Monday afternoon, and ultimately law enforcement got their man in custody per reports from Georgia State Patrol.
Jail information wasn’t immediately available for Caden Clifton, 19, who was taken into custody by the Georgia State Patrol at the end of the incident on Monday.
According to GSP, the chase initially began when officers tried to pull Clifton over on his motorcycle near the intersection of Nebo Road and Bill Carruth Parkway in Hiram around 2:30 p.m. on July 10.
When they tried to stop Clifton, he looked back on his motorcycle and immediately took off and began passing vehicles at a high rate of speed as they were turning onto Nebo Road. The Trooper who tried to stop him first couldn’t keep up and lost Clifton.
Fortunately for law enforcement, they wouldn’t have to wait long before spotting Clifton again. A second trooper on Bill Carruth Parkway spotted him again, caught up with him near Academy Drive and a pursuit began that continued into Polk County past Rockmart and into Cedartown.
Officers lost Clifton a second time, but Cedartown Police saw him go down a dead end street where he ultimately abandoned the bike and fled on foot.
Per the report, cameras caught Clifton leaving a wood line near a Cedartown-area cemetery, walk through the area and then was picked up by another vehicle.
Clifton was ultimately taken into custody by Georgia State Patrol. Warrants were also taken out by local authorities in Paulding and Polk County.
Cedartown Police is also seeking to charge the driver who picked up Clifton since she is alleged to have given officers a false statement. Her name wasn’t immediately available in the report.
Neither the Paulding County Jail or the Polk County Jail had immediate information about the charges that Clifton is facing or bond.
