Student’s car struck by motorcycle while turning off Knox Mountain Road
A motorcycle rider was transported to Floyd Medical Center and a student avoided injury this afternoon leaving the Rockmart High School campus in a wreck on Highway 113, according to Rockmart Police.
Sgt. Jimmy Parker reported this afternoon that the juvenile driver – 16 – was turning out of Rockmart High School when she didn’t see a 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycle coming toward her 2014 Volkswagen Passat.
When she attempted to turn left off of Knox Mountain Road, the motorcycle and 53-year-old driver struck the driver’s side rear door, deploying both airbags on the car. He was thrown from the motorcycle in the wreck.
Rockmart Police along with Rockmart Fire and Rescue and AdventHealth Redmond EMS responded to the scene.
The male driver was transported to Floyd Medical Center by ambulance for further treatment. The full extent of his injuries are unknown at this time.
Highway 113 was cleared for traffic as drivers are returning home from work.
